Vocational experts are professionals which are hired by Social Security to testify as to a claimant’s ability to perform any type of work. The VE will be asked to determine if a claimant is able to perform their past work or if the claimant is able to perform any work at all. The VEs will also testify as to jobs that are available in the local area that the claimant would be able to perform. The basis for a decision by Social Security is not only does the claimant have a disabling condition, but how that condition affects their ability to work.
